Gibbons Reports Gun Buyback Yield to Date

By Kim Siebert MacPhail

Using the occasion of his appearance before the Selectmen to deliver a payment in lieu of taxes from his congregation to the Town, Reverend John Gibbons also reported that the gun buyback program collaboratively initiated last week by First Parish church, police, health and Youth and Family Services has resulted in the surrendering of two rifles so far.

“I don’t expect that we’re going to be besieged with guns, Gibbons said. “Nonetheless, if any unwanted gun was turned in, that is one less unwanted gun in somebody’s house and that is generally good news.”

Police Chief Bongiorno reportedly told Gibbons he had received many inquiries about the buyback program.

Gibbons closed by saying that the collaborative group is planning to sponsor a gun violence forum in Bedford in the near future.
