On Thursday, October 3 the Selectmen will hold a public forum to discuss current use of the Bedford Plaza Hotel.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 pm in the multipurpose room at Bedford Town Hall, 10 Mudge Way.
The Selectmen, Town Manger Richard Reed, Superintendent of Schools Jon Sills, Code Enforcement Officer Christopher Laskey and other town officials are expected to be present.
If you’re unhappy with people living in the Plaza and are inclined to do something constructive about it, Greater Lowell Habitat for Humanity welcomes volunteers and donations. Link = https://lowellhabitat.org/
This is about digging deep with the right questions. For example, did the code violations mentioned just recently occur, or have they been going on for some time? People have been “living” there for years, and the Town was well aware. So why now all of a sudden are violations being cited?
And why is it that Bedford has the highest percentage (homeless as a percent of total population)? It is tops at .6%. That is five times the rate as the tenth town. Who determines this?
Your underlying question is whether we can run the people living at the Plaza out of town, am I right?
Well, my “living” was in quotes. These are not Bedford residents. And thus they aren’t being run out of Town. The state has a program to temporarily place homeless people in shelters.
Yes, the state does and one such temporary housing happens to be in Bedford. Therefore, they are Bedford residents. Last I knew, the owner of the hotel paid taxes for that land, correct?
So if I were to stay at a hotel in Wellesley, am I now a resident, and can my kids attend Wellesley schools?
Hopefully it will be peaceful and not require the police to use tear gas to quiet it down.
