Author Anne Lamott’s visit to Bedford last April was such a rousing success that she specifically requested a return engagement when it came time to promote her new book Stitches, a Handbook on Meaning, Hope and Repair. Stitches will be published at the end of October and Lamott will appear in First Parish on the Common’s sanctuary at 7 pm on Thursday, November 7.

Tickets for Lamott’s Bedford appearance are $25 each and include a first edition copy of Stitches. To purchase tickets online visit the First Parish website, www.uubedford.org. Seating will be first come, first served, with several classrooms wired with audio/video feeds from the sanctuary to support the anticipated audience.

Lamott’s Bedford appearance will benefit First Parish and Amirah, (www.amirahboston.org), a Boston-area non-profit organization that provides transformative whole-person care for survivors of commercial exploitation as we engage, educate and mobilize our communities and partners.

Introducing Lamott in April, First Parish Senior Minister John Gibbons said, “Thank you, Annie, for ever pointing us to a path of heart, balance, gratitude, and joy (you do use those words); and for helping us endure the inevitable times when we are off, way off, that path. Thank you for exposing and admiring and – in laughter and tears – making more tolerable what you call, ‘our groping, lurching and unfinished lives’.” Lamott stepped to the podium and began speaking as if she were settling into a conversation with a single good friend over coffee rather than [speaking to] a capacity crowd.

The April audience members represented multiple religious traditions, with visitors from all five New England states. One enthusiastic participant noted, “Annie isn’t so much a celebrity as a kindred spirit.”
