The Intergenerational Task Force on Incarceration Issues at First Parish on the Common will welcome Andrea James, founder of Families for Justice as Healing, to the Bedford Lyceum in the sanctuary of Bedford’s historic meeting hours on Sunday, April 27 from 12:30 to 1:30pm.

Andrea has worked with the criminal justice system for more than 25 years as a youth worker to a former criminal defense attorney.  Spending 24 months in a Federal prison motivated her to establish Families for Justice as Healing to promote criminal justice reform through legislative advocacy that would shift the emphasis from prison building and expansion to creation of community wellness centers and resources, with a focus on women and children.

Did you know that the Middlesex County Jail in Billerica is now under construction, or that a new jail for women is also planned in Middlesex County?

There are many ideas of ways to lower the incarceration rate, and with knowledge comes power.  The community is invited to hear Andrea’s presentation, learn the facts and perhaps help to make a difference.
