According to Rotarian Victor Tom, the club’s entire stock of bicycle helmets (double the number as in prior years) were distributed to Bedford children on Saturday, June 7.
A pair of bright blue tents pitched in the town parking lot behind the Police Station sheltered Bedford Bicycle Committee volunteers who fitted children with helmets in an almost non-stop stream between 10 am and noon.
Citizen of the Year Ralph Hammond tracked the number of participants and handed out Bedford Farms ice cream certificates to mark the children’s participation, while an expert from the Bikeway Source volunteered advice, inspected bicycles and offered minor adjustments to facilitate safe operation.
As a thank you for the Bicycle and Helmet Safety event, families brought donations for the Bedford Food Pantry. Additional contributions can be sent to the Bedford Food Pantry, 12 Mudge Way, Bedford, MA 01730.
The Rotary Club thanks the Bedford Police Department, the Bedford Bicycle Committee, the Rotary Club of Bedford, Bedford Farms, and the Bikeway Source for their support.
