World of Music Concert Series Begins on September 7 at Middlesex Community College

Love and Relationships: Hugo Wolf’s “Italian Songbook will kick off Middlesex Community College’s World of Music Concert Series at 3 pm on Sunday, September 7, in the MCC Concert Hall. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Soprano and MCC faculty member Anna Ward with tenor Benjamin Robinson, baritone Samuel Bowen, and pianist Joseph Turbessi will perform one of the most beloved song cycles of the 19th century: Italienisches liederbuch (Italian Songbook), a collection of short, gem-like songs. The performers have re-imagined the cycle as a love triangle for soprano, tenor and baritone.

The Middlesex Community College Concert Hall is located in Building 6 on MCC’s Bedford Campus, 591 Springs Road.

The World of Music’s autumn schedule also includes the following four events:

Two Oboes – Friday, October 10 at 8 pm
Bedford’s own John Ferrillo, Principal Oboe of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Amanda Hardy, Principal Oboe of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, piano (MCC faculty) will perform works for two oboes, oboe and piano, and two oboes and piano by Richard Rodney Bennett, Francis Poulenc, Felix Mendelssohn, Johan Helmich Roman and Federigo Fiorillo.

The Marc Rossi Group – Friday, November 7 at 8 pm
Composer Marc Rossi on keyboards; Lance Van Lenten on saxophones and flute; Bill Urmson on bass; and Bob Tamagni on drums will perform original Jazz with Indian and World influences. Jazz critic Fred Bouchard calls the group’s results a “fresh celebratory collaboration.” They will be playing music from their critically acclaimed CD’s Hidden Mandala, Mantra Revealed, Resonance, as well as brand new pieces.

Wanda Paik, Piano – Sunday, November 23 at 3 pm
Noted local pianist and teacher, Paik has over 50 years of performing and teaching in this area, will perform an all Chopin piano recital.
