Middle East Lecture Series at the Council on Aging

The Bedford Council on Aging presents a series of four interactive lectures on the Middle East by Professor John Kienzle:

  • SYRIA and IRAQ: To Be or NOT to be? on September 15
  • IRAN: Islamic Republic Atomic Threat? on September 29
  • ISRAEL and the Palestinians: Is there a Solution? on October 6
  • The “Arab Spring” and EGYPT: What Went Wrong?on October 20

The lectures will begin at 6:30 pm and last approximately 2 hours.

Editor’s note: The programs are open to the public and will be held in the Multi-purpose room at Bedford Town Hall on Mudge Way.

Professor John Kin

Professor Kienzle is an experienced educator, lecturer and lifelong student of the Middle East. He earned a BA in History, State University of NY at Albany; an MA in History fromNew York University (NYU); and his PhD in Oriental History from Princeton University. Professor Kienzle taught World History in New York for 36 years, receiving awards from the Schodack Central Schools, the Capital District Council for Social Studies and an award from New York State for excellence in teaching.

In recent years, he has traveled extensively as a visiting adjunct professor, working in the areas of teacher education and Middle East History. In eastern Massachusetts, Professor Kienzle has lectured at the Chelmsford Senior Center and for the LIRA Program at U Mass Lowell.

Professor Kienzle will present a four-session interactive presentation on the Middle East, drawing on his 40 years of study and teaching on this vital world area.
