Festive concerts to celebrate Valentine’s Day have become a Bedford tradition at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church on Bedford Common. This year’s concert, A Latin Valentine!, will reference Spanish and Latin themes according to the congregation’s Music Committee that is sponsoring the event.

The three-part program begins with popular Boston area song duo Ben Sears, baritone, and Bradford Conner, piano, joining forces with local mezzo-soprano Cynthia Mork in a cabaret set of Spanish/Latin themed popular tunes, including Barcelona, La Paloma, The Shady Dame from Seville, Dulcinea from Man of La Mancha and other favorites.

The second part of the program features Mork in a set of Spanish art songs by de Falla and Obradors, accompanied by award-winning classical guitarist Berit Strong and internationally acclaimed pianist Igor Lovchinsky. Flamenco dancer Laura Sánchez, recently relocated to the US from Madrid, will accompany selected songs (expect clicking castanets and fabulous costumes!)

Finally, Lovchinsky will take center stage to perform Busoni’s spectacular Sonatina #6: Chamber Fantasy on Bizet’s Carmen, plus works by Granados and Piazolla.

A reception following the concert promises chocolate and other delectables to top off this perfect Valentine affair.

Suggested donation at the door $20, seniors/students $15.  Proceeds to benefit First Parish.  A special collection will be taken for Malayaka House, an organization that rescues orphaned and abandoned children in Uganda.  Visit www.malayakahouse.com to learn more.
