Bedford’s support of the METCO program is in its 43rd year.  Since 1972 Bedford has made a commitment to diversity, and the program has grown from 22 students to 97 students who attend Davis, Lane JGMS and Bedford High School.

According to Bedford METCO Director Claire L. Jones, the annual (and delicious!)  Soul Food Dinner will take place from 4 to 8pm Friday, February 6th in the Upper Fellowship Hall of First Church of Christ on Great Road.  Click Soul Food Dinner 2015 to view or print the event flyer.

The dinner is a great event that celebrates community, partnership, and is the Bedford METCO Parent Advisory Boards biggest fundraiser. This event has benefitted the METCO program by subsidizing the book fairs at Davis, Lane and  JGMS, prom tickets at BHS, college tours, scholarships, and various events and activities throughout the year when needed.

Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for youth/children. Dinners can be enjoyed in community at the church, or packaged for take-out.

The menu is home-cooked by METCO volunteers, and served by students. Diners will have a choice of an entrée  Golden Fried Chicken, Sweet & Tangy Chicken, Chicken Caribbean Style, or Stewed Chicken — with two side dishes — Baked Macaroni & Cheese, Rice & Peas,  Glorified Collard Greens, Deliciously Seasoned Green Beans, Perfectly Candied Yams, and Buttery Hot Corn Bread. Each meal comes with a dessert — home-made Sweet Potato Pie, Pound Cake, or Red Velvet Cake.  Additional sides or desserts may be purchased for $3 each.
