Convoys of trucks and heavy equipment from states around Massachusetts arrived in Bedford on Wednesday afternoon.
Satellite trucks from at least two Boston television stations jockeyed for good camera angles as a Department of Conservation Resources ranger directed traffic. The excitement took place along Hartwell Road, at the driveway into the parking area on Massport land just past the Edge Sports center where the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency’s temporary emergency operations and staging center is coming together.
The following announcement appears on the Town of Bedford’s website:
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency has established a temporary emergency operations and staging center on a vacant Massport owned parking lot. The lot is off Hartwell Road in Bedford immediately adjacent to the Hanscom Airfield.
The site will be used to coordinate deployment of snow removal equipment being temporarily assigned to Massachusetts from other states’ transportation departments. The equipment and the personnel assigned from each state will be involved in the emergency snow removal efforts now underway in eastern Massachusetts.
It is expected that this site will be operational until approximately February 21st. For the duration of these operations, there will be an increase in truck and heavy equipment traffic on Hartwell Road and other connecting roads in the Bedford area.
