Did you know Bedford’s Shawsheen Cemetery was originally modeled after Mount Auburn Cemetery?

“The Evolution of Landscape Stewardship at Mount Auburn Cemetery” is the topic for Bedford’s 11^th Annual Arbor Day Talk on Friday, March 27, 2015, from 7:30 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. in the Selectmen’s room, 1^st Floor of Bedford Town Hall, Mudge Way.

Our speaker, Paul Kwiatkowski, is Conservation and Sustainability Manager at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He will introduce this National Historic Landmark through a brief history and interesting facts while focusing on sustainable horticulture practices.

An Ecology graduate of Evergreen State College in Washington, Mr.Kwiatkowski has been employed by Mount Auburn for sixteen years. He frequently gives talks throughout New England on sustainability and is known for his extensive knowledge of soil food webs. He is a member of the Society of Ecological Restoration and the Ecological Landscape Alliance.

Bedford Arbor Resource Committee, the Bedford Department of Public Works and the Jenks Nature Trail Working Group invite you and your friends to celebrate Arbor Day with us early this year. The Talk is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Saplings (whips) will be distributed free by Town/DPW.
