The Bedford Research Foundation Has Moved into Bedford

The Bedford Research Foundation (BRF), a Massachusetts not-for-profit organization conducting stem cell research for diseases currently considered chronic or incurable, has moved it’s research and laboratory facility to Bedford Massachusetts after being located in Somerville for over 15 years.

The Foundation will be hosting two open houses for the community and local businesses on the 30th of April and the 2nd of May, details and RSVP available at www.bedfordresearch.org.  The Foundation is now located at 124 South Rd. in Bedford MA. 01730.

The move to Bedford was inspired by the drive to find lower cost space and facilities for the Foundation’s ever expanding operations, and to become part of the infrastructure of the growing biotech culture in and around the route 128 area.

As a 501c(3) organization, the Foundation is in the unique position of creating collaborations in research, and being a catalyst to developing new partnerships and relationships.

As Ryan Kiessling, Operations Director states:  “Our bottom line is developing solutions for people who suffer from chronic pain and illness due to conditions that could be treated with stem cells or other types of regenerative medicine techniques…as a not-for-profit organization we don’t have the same drivers and pressures that for-profit industries do, therefore it may be easier to partner with us because we aren’t worried about creating a profit for our shareholders – our trustees just want us to get results toward treatments.”

BRF brings with it several award winning programs and it’s expert knowledge in Parthenote Stem Cell Research, lead by Dr. Ann Kiessling, who recently retired from Harvard Medical School as an Associate Professor of Surgery to pursue her passions at BRF full time.  Alan Geismer, chairman of the BRF board stated this in a recent interview: “The Foundation is a forward thinking institution that covers overhead costs with fee-for-service testing, thus allowing philanthropic donations to go directly to research.”
