The Town’s contractor, ET&L Corp., returned to Bedford on Monday, April 6th to complete the miscellaneous work items on School Way and to start work on the replacement of the traffic signals at the intersection of Great Road, Springs Road and South Road. In addition, they will install a pre-emption traffic signal in front of the Bedford Fire Station so that emergency response vehicles can safely exit and enter their site.

The reconfiguration of the intersection of Great Road, Springs Road and South Road narrows the roadway to accommodate bicycles traveling east of the intersection. This design will continue through the Great Road Master Plan, a long range effort to improve pedestrian and bicycle access.

Of historical interest, the Hayden Fountain in front of the Santander Bank will be relocated approximately 20 feet to the east to accommodate the new curb line. The existing stanchion which hung a street light will be cleaned and reset.

The project will start the week of April 6th and continue through mid-July. Work hours will be Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, weather dependent. The roadway will remain open to traffic, although delays should be expected through the work site.

The Bedford DPW will be overseeing this project. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact us at (781) 275-7605. Thank you for your patience during this upcoming project.
