The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary’s annual 5k Run~Walk for Cancer brings together runners, walkers, and families from across the 25 communities served by Emerson Hospital to support cancer care at the Mass General Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital — Bethke. The rain-or-shine event will take place at The Thoreau Club field, 275 Forest Ridge Road in Concord on Saturday, May 30, 2015.
The 5k Run begins at 8:30 a.m., the one-mile Kids’ Fun Run at 9:00 a.m., and the 5k Walk at 10:30 a.m. All follow groomed trails and tree-lined residential streets. Award ceremonies will honor medalists in the 5k Run and the Kids’ Fun Run. The event’s top fundraisers and teams will be recognized in a separate ceremony. Participants and their guests are invited to remain at The Thoreau Club for a BBQ and family activities including a Tot Trot for children, swimming and sports, craft activities, and an inflatable obstacle course.
Denise Haartz, a 2014 fundraiser and team leader of Aux Rox, the Auxiliary’s Run~Walk team, feels that the cancer center is a very important community resource, “If I can, in any way, lessen cancer’s impact on my family, friends or neighbors, I feel compelled to try. The Auxiliary’s support of patient-centric programs makes it easy for volunteers like me to make a difference.” Denise is returning as team leader of the 2015 Aux Rox Run~Walk team.
