The ancient bell atop First Parish, the historic meeting house on Bedford Common, has rung to honor lives lost, marriages, national events, and Red Sox World Series victories. It will peal again at noon on Sunday, June 28, in recognition of Pope Francis’s historical Encyclical on the environment, at the same time churches around the world are encouraged to take actions, including the pealing of their bells.

First Parish’s Senior Minister John Gibbons has invited members of St. Michael Parish and other Bedford churches, along with everyone who cares about climate justice, to gather on Bedford Common and join in ringing First Parish’s bell to commemorate the Encyclical.

You can read the full text of Pope Francis’s Encyclical Laudato Si’, on the care for our common home, via the Vatican’s website..

Editor’s Note: First Parish was recently declared a Green Sanctuary Congregation by the Unitarian Universalist Association.
