The 60th Annual Middlesex County 4H Fair opened this afternoon with an exuberant parade of area clubs led by the 4H Fife and Drum Corps, and reminiscences about his youth in 4H offered by Steven Verrill of Concord’s Verrill Farm.
The fair is wholly non-commercial and old-fashioned, a way to create great family memories.
The poultry judging took place on Friday morning and Bedford’s Victoria Hand’s brood of backyard birds garnered multiple First Place, Best in Show and Second Place ribbons. One of the hens was so excited, it laid an egg during the judging! Early next week The Citizen will post the list of all the categories in which Bedford 4Hers participated.

Pairs of animals at rest
Keynote speaker Steven Verrill and a long-standing admirer
The fair is open through Sunday afternoon, and if you visit with your kids be sure to check in with the Bedford club’s ‘headquarters’ in the cattle barn.
