Editor’s Note: This is the first in a series of reviews of restaurants that will participate in Flavors of Bedford, a Bedford Chamber of Commerce fundraiser, on November 8
Sora, the restaurant located in the Bedford Doubletree Hotel, is not just for business lunches any more. Though as a destination for a business gathering, it won’t disappoint.
Long a staple in the Bedford area for meetings, functions and family events, we went back to the space recently to see if the dinner offerings are keeping up with the fine options popping up all over the area. We learned quickly that Sora stands up to any challenger. The décor is bright, the staff is helpful, and the atmosphere inviting. The tables are not crowded, but not necessarily far apart. For this reason, the noise level is kept to a minimum, so you can enjoy dinner, and not the conversation of the people from the next table over.
Of course, the star of the experience is the meal. We have long enjoyed the fresh, crisp salads at Sora, often on a lunch buffet. At dinner the salad appetizer comes in an ample portion, always fresh and tasty.
We are fans of fresh, local shellfish, as well as poultry prepared differently than what my wife makes at home. Those of you who know Breena now why I did not write about what I make at home! Anyway, back to work. The Portuguese Seafood Cioppino is terrific. A great combination of mussels, clams, shrimp, fish and crab that can hold its own against most Fall River restaurants. Take that, Rep. Alan Silvia! We also recently tried the North Atlantic Salmon Chip, which was a rich, thick fish cooked to tasty perfection. Breena is a big fan of scallops, which, for some reason, are not my favorite, so she was delighted with the opportunity to order them here. They did not disappoint her. She said they were sweet, moist and delicious. I have to admit, even I thought they were quite good.
Don’t be afraid to venture out with this Sora menu. We are looking forward to coming back for the Roasted “Under a Brick” Organic Hen and lobster gnocchi.
