AEROSPACE SCIENCE – Gary Maki, Program Director

Aerospace Science Honor Award: The recipient of this award has attained academic and military excellence as well as demonstrated positive personal attributes. This student has not only been an active supporter of all JROTC extracurricular activities this school year, but has also maintained the highest academic average in his or her class and is someone we are very proud to have in our program.

Art Award: The recipients consistently demonstrate excellence in the technical development and the expression of exemplary aesthetic values in the creation of original visual artwork.

Art All State: Art All-State Massachusetts is an intense two-day program that brings together 144 high school juniors of exceptional creative potential to work with practicing artists. Students work in groups to explore contemporary art and use their newfound knowledge to inspire the creation of collaborative installations in the studio spaces at UMass Dartmouth.

Mathematics Award: The recipients best exemplify the standards of mathematical practice, have developed the processes of problem solving, reasoning and proof, communication, representation, and connections in mathematics.  They have proficiencies in adaptive reasoning, strategic competence, conceptual understanding, and procedural fluency. They have a habitual inclination to see mathematics as sensible, useful, and worthwhile.

Science Department Honor Award – (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) – The recipient in each discipline meets the following criteria: academic excellence, consistent demonstration of safety standards, natural scientific curiosity and a desire to share knowledge and observations with peers and faculty. The award is presented for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award: The Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award is presented to a member of the junior class who exceeds in both math and science. Every year since 1933, Bausch + Lomb honors outstanding high school science students with the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award.

Rensselaer Medal: The Rensselaer Institute annually makes the following presentation to a member of the junior class who has been selected by the Bedford Science Faculty as an outstanding student in science and mathematics and whose future potential for success lies in a science-related field. The Rensselaer Medal was first presented in 1916 with two purposes: to recognize superlative academic achievement of young men and women, and to motivate students toward a career in science, engineering, and technology.

 BROWN UNIVERSITY BOOK AWARD: The Brown University Book Award is presented annually to the outstanding junior in English who combines a high degree of ability in both written and spoken English. Language is the highest expression of our humanity: it defines what we are and what we aspire to be.

DARTMOUTH BOOK AWARD: The Dartmouth Book Award, which is intended to encourage intellectual excellence and to recognize student achievement, is presented to a junior in the top 10% of his or her class who has attained an outstanding combined academic average in three college preparatory courses including Math and English, with the third subject preferably a foreign language, and has made an outstanding leadership contribution in the life of Bedford High School and/or the community.

SAINT MICHAEL’S COLLEGE BOOK AWARD: The Saint Michael’s College Book Award seeks to recognize a student for academic achievement with a social conscience. WELLESLEY COLLEGE BOOK AWARD: The Wellesley Book Award is given to an outstanding young woman in grade 11 who embodies a model of academic achievement, informed leadership, community service, and personal character.

THE PRINCETON AWARD: The Princeton Association of New England presents its award to a junior who demonstrates both outstanding academic achievement and outstanding personal traits of character, leadership, and performance in sports, music, student government, or service to the community.
