If you attended Bedford Day, you may have received a bookmark from the Bedford Free Public Library announcing The Bedford Stories Project.  Inspired by StoryCorps ®, which many of you are familiar with on National Public Radio, The Bedford Stories Project is a community-wide, story gathering program.  It will give the citizens of Bedford a forum to tell and preserve their stories.

Directed by noted local videographer Leslie Wittman, the Library is inviting people of all ages to come and record a conversation with someone in Bedford who has inspired you or made a difference in your life.  This could be a family member, a teacher, a coach, a clergy member, a friend, or co-worker – the possibilities are endless and it is up to you to decide who you would like to talk with.

And if you’d like to talk about a person who is no longer with us, Wittman says you can come and record an interview about the impact that individual had on you.  She will begin scheduling the recording sessions in October at the Library.  For more information and to schedule YOUR story, please send an email to: [email protected] or call Leslie Wittman at 781-698-9724.

The audio recording equipment Wittman will be using has been provided by the Friends of the Bedford Free Public Library.  Photographs of those participating will be posted on the Library web site and there will be “listening stations” in the Library to tune in to the stories presented by Bedford residents. This will be a year-long project so there will be plenty of opportunity to take part.

Wittman, a personal historian, is widely known in town for the set of videos she produced documenting the World War II memories of Carleton Willard residents.  In 2015 she debuted “Bedford Memories, Stories of a Small town,” capturing the oral histories of more than a dozen current and former residents.
