Letter to the Editor, November 11, 2016: Cong. Moulton on the Presidential Election

November 11, 2016

By Congressman Seth Moulton

Letter-to-the-Editor“Many of us will remember last night as one of the most disillusioning of our lives. I am truly sad for this country that I so deeply love.

“But while sorrow and despair are both justifiable and understandable, they won’t move us forward. I was re-elected last night to do a job that now is more important than ever, and I will need your continued faith and support to do it well.

“What we cannot do is write off this election, write off public service, or write off the United States of America. I believe in this country, and I believe in its people. I believe in you.

“Each of us, in our own separate ways, must step forward into this new, uncertain world, and strive to work with one another to find principled hope, not false promises; to see the opportunity for healing in our deep divisions; and to stand up for the fundamental convictions of our country when they are under assault from within.

“I share your disappointment and concern. But I promise you that I will keep working. And I need you to keep working. Our country needs you to keep working–to preserve what makes us Americans: that the opportunity for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness will be available to all of us, now and for generations to come.”
