A Service of Advent Lessons and Carols at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church – Saturday, December10 at 5 pm

stp-lessons-and-carols-2016-postcardOn Saturday, December 10, at 5:00 p.m., St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will host a special service of Advent Lessons and Carols.

St. Paul’s own director of music, Dr. Michael Monroe, will present the world premiere of his piece, “To Watch,” a carol for SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), with text written by 1838 by Cardinal John Henry Newman.Guest musicians include Park Street Church organist Nathan Skinner and a string quartet.

The service will also feature traditional anthems by Renaissance and Classical composers, including the ever-popular “For Unto Us A Child Is Born” chorus from Messiah, along with works by contemporary composers, including “Advent Carol” by Ellen Gilson Voth, based on a poem by Christina Rossetti.

The service also features familiar hymns for congregational singing, as well as readings from the Bible and other spiritual works, both historical and contemporary. Rev. Christopher Wendell, rector of St. Paul’s, will preside over the 75-minute service. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

St. Paul’s is a fully accessible building, located at 100 Pine Hill Road in Bedford.
