Submitted by State Rep. Ken Gordon (D-Bedford)

With the same charge of excitement that I felt right twice previously, I raised my right hand last week and was sworn in as the State Representative for Bedford, Burlington and precinct 3 in Wilmington.  The weight of responsibility is significant. The opportunity that comes with it is uplifting.  I appreciate the chance that I have been given to once again stand up for our shared values and bring our voice to Beacon Hill.

I will continue to advocate for our region.  The high tech industries based in our towns serve as an economic generator that supports many of this state’s programs.  They need to be nurtured.  I’ll once again bring together leaders from the legislature and the administration to address our needs for transportation improvements, and support for our public schools and colleges.  I will continue to work with the Middlesex 3 Coalition as it works toward economic progress that benefits all of us.

On a state-wide basis, I will once again file and advocate for legislation that will help our working families.  I’ll be front and center in the drive for paid family and medical leave. In fact, I am going back to Washington this Thursday to meet with the Labor Department about our program.  In addition to labor issues, I’ll be filing legislation designed to protect children from sexual abuse, support our veterans, and protect our environment.

I will remain available to you, the residents of our district. As I have for the past four years, I will continue to hold monthly office hours in Bedford and Burlington the second Saturday of each month.  I will publicize reminders in the local media and on my web site, www.repkengordon.org.  I will meet with our seniors at the Council on Aging the second Thursday (Burlington) and third Monday (Bedford) of each month. If there is a conflict with the date of any commitment, I will find another date, rather than cancel altogether. In fact, this month, rather than my usual availability at True North Coffee in Burlington and Prince Street Café in Bedford, I will be available Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at Steve’s Pizza in Bedford and from 7:30-8:30 pm. at School House Ice Cream in Burlington. Come by for a slice of pizza or an ice cream cone.  If you have a lot to discuss, come to both!  I will also continue to schedule quarterly office hours at the Wilmington Public Library.

I will continue to produce our cable show, Rapping With the Rep. If there is a topic you would like me to discuss, just send me an email, [email protected].

Our federal government is headed for turbulent times.  Here in Massachusetts, we in the legislature, and throughout state government, are here for you. We may not always agree with each other, and you may not always support our approach, but through me you have a representative who will listen to your views.  Please seek me out. I will continue to respond.
