Election ~ 2017: The Best People Turn Up In the Worst Weather

Given last night’s snow and this morning’s frigid weather, a new pair of campaign workers were present atop a minivan at the polls for Bedford’s 2017 town election, thanks to Dianne Bridgeman – Image (c) JMcCT, 2017 all rights reserved

The polls will be open until 6 pm today, and your vote is important. If you’ve not gotten out to vote, there’s still time!

The 2017 crop of candidates in today’s town election weren’t the only intrepid souls who braved fresh snow along with the morning’s high winds and below zero wind chill readings. By one pm, more than 300 voters had bundled up and made their way to the polls.

With a contested race for Library Trustee on the ballot, candidates were on hand when the polls opened at 8 am, some trusting the bright sunshine for warmth and others snuggled under a tent with a propane heater more typically used for mid-winter tailgate parties. By noon, however, everyone was dependent on the sun, the tent having blown down in the strong winds.

The Citizen will be at the polls to bring you the preliminary results as soon as they are available, and will also post the official tally as soon as it is released by Town Clerk Doreen Tremblay.
