The day is fast approaching! Massachusetts Walk and Bike to School Day will take place on Wednesday, May 3rd. Hundreds of events will occur all over the state, with thousands of students walking or riding their bikes to school.

Walk or Biking to School is an option to consider on almost any day, but our event days are extra special!  Massachusetts Walk and Bike to School Day is a statewide event organized through the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS). Last year, the Commonwealth set a record with nearly 300 schools participating in events throughout the state.  These events to help increase the visibility of walking and biking in Massachusetts while showcasing the benefits of healthy transportation in our community.

Families are encouraged to Walk and Bike to School on their own or join an event:

 LANE SCHOOL

 7:30 am:  The Biking Train

Meet at Depot Park on Loomis Street. This will be an independent ride for students and parents with some volunteers including Mr. Ackerman and Mr. Kinney to help shepherd the event. Helmets are required. The distance between Depot Park and Lane School is approximately 2 miles, along the rail trail, with an approximately 25-minute uphill section.

The Afternoon Return Ride leaves Lane School at 1:15 PM for an approximately 15-minute downhill ride to Depot Park for a 1:30 pm parent pick-up.

Students may ride one way if the Lane School officel is notified.
Parents are highly encouraged to join either ride!
Poor weather forecast will cancel the biking school bus.

7:45 am: The Walking School Bus

Meet in the  St. Paul’s parking lot on Pine Hill Road  for an escorted, approximately 1-mile walk along  neighborhood streets  to Lane School

Another Option

The Middlesex Community College Overflow Lot connects to the Bike Trail and is a great drop off point for those who want a short (10 min) walk or quick bike ride to Lane but cannot walk/bike from their neighborhood.  This is a great alternative to ease congestion (and stress) on the Lane campus!

DAVIS SCHOOL

8:50  am: The Celebratory Walk and Roll

The Celebratory Walk and Roll escorted by school personnel, volunteers and parents begins at 8:50 am, leaving from the Lutheran Church parking lot, traveling to Davis with school and Town officials.

 JGMS and BHS

As always, JGMS and BHS students are encouraged to Walk & Bike to School but no events are scheduled.
