New Decking and Railing Approved for Depot Park

By Debra Parkhurst

At their meeting on April 3, the Selectmen awarded a contract to replace the Depot Freight House Deck.

Depot Park Advisory Committee Chairman Joe Piantedosi said three bids were received and recommended that the bid be awarded to New England Builders of Methuen, MA.  Director of Facilities Taissir Alani also recommended the approval.   The total cost of the project is $53,400.  Of that amount, $25,000 will come from Historic Preservation Properties Fund, while the Depot Park Revolving fund will pay $28,400.

Piantedosi explained that the decking will not need maintenance for seven years, and should turn a “silver” color after three years.  The price also includes a black coated aluminum railing system.
