Suspicious Body Located in Bedford

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno have confirmed that a body was located today near the Carlisle Street Boat Ramp on the Concord River located off Route 225 in Bedford.

On Saturday evening Chief Bongiorno said, “The Bedford Police Department is actively investigating this suspicious death with the District Attorneys Office. We will update the community as soon as practical.Due to the sensitivity of this investigation, we thank the community in advance for their understanding!”

Police responded to the area shortly after 11:00 a.m. today after a report that a group of Boy Scouts cleaning up trash along the river had observed something suspicious along the embankment. Upon arrival police located the body.

The body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The identity of the victim has not yet been determined.

This death is being considered suspicious. This is an active and ongoing investigation. To protect the integrity of the investigation additional details are not being released at this time.

The Bedford Citizen appreciates the following statement from Scoutmaster Peter Ricci, “The Boy Scout Program focuses on protection of its youth members. We have had multiple contacts in regards
to an incident today in Bedford. We appreciate members of the press [and public] respecting the privacy of our youth.

“Scouts from a local Bedford Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack participated in the annual Beautify Bedford cleanup day today,” Ricci continued. “This annual event helps keep public and conservation areas clean. During this event, a small group of youths along with adult volunteers encountered something that appeared suspicious and out of place. The group appropriately notified the local police department. Any further questions should be directed to the Bedford Police Department.”

Well handled, Scoutmaster Ricci. What a greusome experience for all involved. May the remains be identified quickly and the situation resolved. I’m sorry you all went through that.
