Submitted by the Danny Oates 5k Road Race Committee
The 23rd annual Danny Oates 5k is coming on Bedford Day, Saturday, September 23! Starting at the John Glenn Middle School, the 5k run and 2.5k walk benefit a scholarship fund for our local High School seniors. In addition, the little kids can participate in a Kids Fun Run on the track just prior to the race. Run and Walk registration is $25 pre-event, $30 day of, ($5 military) and includes a long-sleeved tee for participants.
Why Register Early?
Signing up now has a special advantage. All entries in June and July are entered in a drawing for an iRobot Roomba® vacuuming robot. That means while you are out training for the race, or lounging at the beach, or at work, your house is getting clean. Think about it- one entry fee and you get in shape, the floors are clean and you are helping our local students. It’s a win!
About the Danny Oates Memorial Race
The Danny Oates Memorial Race was founded to pay tribute to the beloved son of Robert and Judy Oates of Bedford, MA. Bob is a retired member of the Bedford Fire Department and a member of various civic organizations; their son Brian currently serves as one of our local firefighters.
All proceeds of the race fund the Danny Oates Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Frank W. Thompson Lodge. The organization typically gives out over $15,000 in scholarships annually.
