As you soak up the summer sun and savor the season’s slower pace, think about this: September is only a couple of calendar flips away. That means Bedford will soon be immersed in the fun, food, and festivities of Bedford Day, September 23 this year.

As part of the Bedford Day gala, the Bedford Arts and Crafts Society (BACS) will again host its annual Regional Art Show. One of the best small art fairs in our area, the exhibition showcases the talents of artists and crafters from Bedford and nearby towns. It attracts hundreds of visitors eager to view locally created artwork and crafts.

The late Connie Hanley, an award-winning watercolorist, launched the art show in the fall of 1999. Connie hoped that the show would become a popular venue for artists to display their work annually. And indeed it has. Last year’s Regional Art Show featured more than 70 works by 32 artists and crafters. The judging categories were Watercolor, Oil/Acrylic/Pastel, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture/3D/Fiber Arts, and Photography.

If you are an artist or a crafter—whether a pro or a novice—the show is a great opportunity to share your work with an appreciative audience. Entry fees are low and benefit the annual BACS scholarship that is awarded to a graduating high school student who will pursue a career in an art-related field. All entries will be accepted and judged for prizes, and you will have the option of selling your art if that is your goal.

What could be better? By putting your work in the show, you get tons of recognition, you support a worthy civic cause, you might win a prize, and you might make a sale!

For information on how to enter, visit BACS’s website, www.bacsma.org. In the “Bedford Day” link, you will find details on this year’s judging categories and prizes, as well as the entry form for the show.

You can drop off your work at the Bedford Town Center Building on Thursday, September 21. The Town Center is the yellow building behind Town Hall on Mudge Way. Use the entrance closest to Town Hall and go to the second floor. The drop-off time is 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.Work will be judged for awards that Thursday afternoon.

The show itself takes place in the Union Room of the Town Center Building. The exhibit is open to the public on Friday, September 22, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, and Saturday, September 23, 9:00 AM–2:30 PM. For questions, e-mail [email protected]
