Hanscom Runway Resurfacing Project: Online Update ~ August 4, 2017

Active work on Hanscom runway 11-29 began on Monday, August 1. By Friday, August 4 the project was well underway, with Massport’s weekly online update noting that the overall project is 15% complete. Click this link to view a PDF of Massport’s post. The surface milling component of the project is at 65% completion, with 2,500 tons of asphalt installed according to the update.

The online report continues, stating that on August 4, the contractor will be rubblizing concrete on the west portion of the runway from 6 am to 6 pm, then will begin paving the east portion of the runway from August 5 through 7.

  • Phase 1: Overall reconstruction of Runway 11-29, from August 1, 2017 to August 29, 2017
  • Phase 2: Work on Runway 11-29 within 5-23 intersection, from August 11, 2017 to August 14, 2017
  • Phase 3: Work on Runway 11-29 within Taxiway G, from August 22, 2017 to August 25, 2017
  • Phase 4: Milling and resurfacing pavement on Runway 11-29, from August 10, 2017 to September 17, 2017

Responding an inquiry about the progress of the Hanscom runway reconstruction project, Massport’s Media Relations office reported: “The project has been underway for three days and it is going smoothly and according to schedule. We are in communication with both Bedford and Lexington Police Departments on a daily basis and neither is reporting any traffic issues or suggesting traffic details. We will monitor that throughout the project and add police details if a need arises.”
