Lot Division to Allow a New Home on the Great Road

By Meredith McCulloch

At the Planning Board meeting on August 8, Attorney Pamela Brown represented Michael and Lee Ann Knight in a request for approval of a subdivision of their property at 12 Great Road. The change would create a second house lot between their home, the historic Fitch Tavern, and the neighboring home at 26 The Great Road. The new lot would be 30,000 square feet as required in that zone.

Brown said the owner hopes to set the house back on the lot so that the Fitch Tavern will maintain its prime position.  The Fitch Tavern is an important historical property in Bedford. It was at the tavern that the Bedford Minutemen gathered before going to Concord to join the historic encounter with the British on April 19, 1775 at the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

The Planning Board approved the division unanimously.
