Middlesex Community College and the Lowell Spinners baseball club have established a new scholarship and internship opportunity to support MCC students.

The Lowell Spinners Annual Scholarship is part of the Spinners Scholars program, made possible by team owner Dave Heller and the Lowell Spinners.  This annual scholarship was established to benefit students from the Merrimack Valley who exhibit a high level of integrity, academic excellence, an interest in sports, a demonstrated desire to improve their community, and a willingness to commit to making one’s future in the Merrimack Valley.  The recipient will also participate in a paid summer internship with the Spinners organization.

Funding for the Lowell Spinners Annual Scholarship is provided by an annual contribution in the amount of up to $5,000, and in consultation with the MCC Financial Aid Office, ensures that neither the recipient nor his or her family will have any financial obligation for tuition and fees for his or her second year. The scholarship also includes a paid summer internship with the Lowell Spinners ball club.

“Giving back to this wonderful community is of great importance to everyone at the Spinners, and one of the best ways to do that is to help our young people build a better future for themselves and their families, and that’s what the great team at Middlesex Community College does every day” said Spinners’ owner Dave Heller. “This scholarship incentivizes people to achieve excellence, helps them climb the ladder of opportunity to a better future, gives them first-hand experience in the world of sports, and makes our community a better place. That’s a grand slam!”

“Having wonderful community partners like the Spinners is a tremendous asset for Middlesex Community College and the entire Merrimack Valley,” said MCC president James Mabry.  “Dave Heller and the entire Spinners organization are committed to making a positive difference in our communities and their support for students and student success is greatly appreciated.”
