The 2017 running of Matty’s Monster Dash was a success by any measure. There were bib numbers from the single digits to 487, runners and walkers aged 8 to 71, with smiles and hugs. And, there were costumes: a pair of dinosaurs, at least one ballerina, muscle men, superwomen (as well as a lot of super women), batmen, and not just 1, but 2 Things. Hundreds of serious runners, fun-runners, and walkers enjoyed perhaps the final glorious October Saturday in 2017.
The runners took off in a blaze of glory at 9 am on Saturday, October 28, led by one of Bedford’s finest on a motorcycle with flashing blue lights and a screaming siren. The first runner to return to Davis School was Douglas Cook who ran 18:25 for the 5K course; it took Brandon Finn 35:41 to complete his 10K run. The last participants crossed the finish line at 10:22 am.

Matty’s Monster Dash benefits Friends for Matty (www.friendsformatty.org) a non-profit 501c3 created by founded by Phil and Tina Langone in memory of their son Matthew who lost his life to cancer in 2009. “Our mission at Friends For Matty is to provide financial and emotional assistance to families who are coping with the effects of childhood cancer. In addition, some of our proceeds are donated to hospitals to enhance family resources and support research for neuroblastoma and other childhood cancers. As a result of Friends For Matty having no salaried employees, 100% of the proceeds from this event will benefit the cause.”
