The AARP, in partnership with the Council on Aging, provides free income tax preparation to seniors and low-to-moderate income residents of Bedford and surrounding communities.

We are seeking volunteers to prepare these tax returns for the 2017 season. No prior experience is required. All tax materials are provided free of charge, and tax law training covers preparing basic federal tax returns, deductions, credits and allowable expenses that benefit eligible taxpayers. Training is online and self-directed, allowing volunteers to progress at their own pace using the professional tax preparation software provided by the IRS. At the completion of training, and before interviewing a client, every volunteer, new or returning, must pass an Advanced Certification exam which is taken online

Tax season starts the first week in February and continues until mid-April, with most volunteers working no more than 2 or 3 three hour sessions per week depending on their own schedule and availability, always with another volunteer.
