How does the human spirit survive and persevere in the face of destruction? Wilder addresses the question in this classic American tragicomedy. Meet George and Maggie Antrobus and their children, Henry and Gladys, of Excelsior, N.J. George and Maggie have been married for 5,000 years. Whether he is inventing the alphabet or merely saving the world from apocalypse, George and his redoubtable family somehow manage to survive – by the skin of their teeth.

Completed by Wilder less than a month after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, “The Skin of Our Teeth” broke from established theatrical conventions and won the 1943 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
