Bedford Police are Investigating Saturday’s Motor Vehicle Pursuit

February 3, 2018

Submitted on behalf of the Bedford Police Department

Chief Robert Bongiorno reports that the Bedford Police Department is investigating following a motor vehicle pursuit that occurred this evening. On Saturday, February 3, at approximately 5 pm, Bedford Police received a report of a suspicious white U-Haul van parked next to a donation bin at a local church. These bins have been targeted in the past for criminal activity.

The vehicle left the scene prior to police arrival, but officers were able to locate a white U-Haul van nearby on Great Road shortly afterward and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

The van failed to stop for police and a pursuit ensued with the operator of the vehicle driving in a dangerous manner, nearly striking a cruiser.

The pursuit continued onto Route 95 southbound but was called off in the area of exit 19B in Needham out of concern for public safety.

At this time, it is believed that the U-Haul van was reported stolen for failure to return a rental. Bedford Police are actively investigating this incident and ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident or have any information to contact police at 781-275-1212.
