The Bedford Boys 7th-grade White travel basketball team captured the Division 5A Championship on Sunday, March 11. Bedford defeated second-seeded Westwood, 41-32, in the final at Foxboro.
Richie Fedele led all scorers in the championship game with 18 points. Luca Melfi added 16; Wynn Sheridan, 5; and Chris Woo, 2. Mihir Vaze, Austin Cullis, Anirudh Kumar, and Rudra Parvate also played key roles in the victory, contributing excellent defense. Evan Kenahan also played a key role for the team throughout the season.
The 8th-seeded Bucs defeated four higher seeded teams on their way to the title. 8 out of 9 players scored in their opening round win over top-seeded Belmont, 46-43. Three wins followed on consecutive days: 34-29 over a second Belmont team; 47-37 over Walpole; and the final win over Westwood.
Coaching this group was a lot of fun. They continued to work and improve during the season and put it together at the right time.
