After a long, rainy build-up in Bedford on Wednesday, New England’s second Nor’easter in two weeks kicked in with a vengeance overnight. Snow began to fall late in the evening, heavy and wet. Bedford woke on Thursday morning to power outages and serious damage all over town.

Superintendent Jon Sills closed Bedford schools at 4:45 am, citing snowy roads, downed trees, and power outages. Eversource reports that a third of its Bedford customers (2,037 households) are without power this morning, and there are anecdotal reports of a live wire across Pine Hill Road, at the crest of the hill just past St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a tree down, across the road on Page Road/Grove Street.

Assistant Library Director Noreen O’Gara sent the lead photograph for this story: A beautiful tree down, blocking the library’s entrance on the High School side of the building. The Library hopes to open at noon; check back for the latest information.

Where Facebook is often filled with memes and videos, today’s feed is full of Bedford news: Cold homes, trees blocking doorways or landing on cars, and collapsed garden structures.

As long as The Citizen’s power holds, we’ll continue to add photographs and update this story throughout the day.
