Curbside Yard Waste Collection – April 23 to 27

Submitted by Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator

Curbside collection of yard waste will take place next week, April 23-27, and the Department of Public Works is having Republic Services pick up bundles or barrels of tree branches as part of next week’s curbside yard waste collection.

“The DPW is fully aware of the challenges Bedford residents are facing with the clean up from last month’s storms. Our crews are still working on cleaning up the schools, parks, and cemeteries,” said David Manugian, Bedford’s Director of Public Works. “To help residents clear their property, the DPW added tree debris to next week’s collection.”

Residents should place their yard waste out in tall paper bags or open barrels with no lids on Monday. Any yard waste in plastic bags will be left behind.

Republic will pick up bundles or barrels of debris from trees, brush, and shrubs that are between 1 inch and 6 inches in diameter and no more than 3 feet in length. The bundles or barrels cannot weigh more than 50 pounds. All other yard waste (including branches less than 1 inch in diameter) should be in tall paper bags or in uncovered barrels.

Republic Services will bring the yard waste to the town’s Compost Center.

In addition, the Compost Center at 108 Carlisle Road will be open on Wednesday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, April 21 and April 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bedford’s Compost Center accepts leaves, grass clippings, flowering plants, pine needles and garden trimmings. Residents may also bring brush and tree limbs.

Residents bringing yard waste to the Compost Center can use plastic bags but the bags must be emptied and taken home for disposal or reuse.
