Stamp Out Hunger – Postal Food Drive Confusion

Compiled by The Bedford Citizen

Moments after The Citizen posted an announcement for Saturday’s planned Stamp Out Hunger food drive conducted by the US Postal Service, we learned — via the Bedford Pantry website — that the collection had been canceled due to logistical concerns this year.

Many Bedford postal customers received cards in today’s mail, affirming that the collection was underway. And they began calling Peter and Cathy Grey, founders of the Bedford Pantry to voice their confusion. And The Citizen followed up with the Greys as well.

Peter Grey has been in touch with the local Stamp Out Hunger coordinator multiple times over the past weeks, once he learned that the lack of sufficient available space at Town Center on Saturday afternoon precluded the possibility of holding the food drive. However, postcards slipped through and were delivered to some Bedford homes on Tuesday afternoon.

The Citizen has reached out to the local coordinator for the food drive and will report the result as soon as we learn the final word.
