Selectmen Accept “Community Compact” with the Commonwealth and Authorize Grants Applications for Three Projects

December 30, 2015

By Meredith McCulloch

SelectmenEarly in 2015 Governor Baker issued an executive order creating Community Compacts, which would facilitate partnership between local communities and the Commonwealth on local issues.  Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito will head the initiative.  In order for Bedford to apply for grants under the program the Selectmen voted to accept the Community Compact agreement.

Bedford’s Town Manager Richard Reed and Economic Development Coordinator Alyssa Sandoval met with members of the Middlesex 3 Coalition to learn about the program.  Apparently Bedford has three projects underway that might qualify for grant funds: Complete Streets, rezoning for business along the Great Road, and shared regional transportation among the Middlesex 3 communities. Grants are awarded through the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.

The Selectmen were asked to approve the three projects and to authorize the Town Manager to submit applications on behalf of the Selectmen.
