Arts News & Events for July & August

By Julie McCay Turner

The BCA Blast, the newsletter for Bedford Center for the Arts, does double duty as the arts section for The Bedford Citizen. Readers are invited to print a copy, or read it page-by page on a computer. Click here to read the July-August edition. BCA also offers a curated compendium of local events for July and August.

The BCA Photography Group is preparing for its upcoming show at Cary Memorial Library. The newsletter includes updates about BCA’s Photography Group meetings, its play reading group and its weekly drop-in gathering for artists, the the July Artists’ Salon, and upcoming autumn classes.

Following up on BCA’s Annual Meeting in May, the 2011-2012 Annual Report is available on line along with an update from the annual meeting’s speaker, Jason Musselman, about the summer photo classes he is teaching in Honduras.

Member artists report their activities:

  • Rob Dobson will sing in his first-ever opera this month and has just sent his sculpture, Basket #81, to the US embassy in Kiev where it will be on permanent display.
  • Sing Hanson is preparing a small group show for September;
  • Michael Milicia’s Joppa Flats show is up until July 29, and he’s teaching a half-day seminar about using flash in nature photographs.
  • Liz Rodriguez will bring her whimsical ceramics to artisan markets from Lowell to SoWa, and
  • Judi Babcock’s work will be on display at Cary Library in Lexington during the month of August.

And, in memoriam, BCA was saddened by the death of member and friend Joan Ross. Click to learn a bit about Joan’s connection with BCA.
