Winchester attacked right from the start only to be thwarted by the resolute defending of Alyssa Gardner, Caroline Towle, Cameron Rackey, and aggressive goalkeeping by Abby Monahan. Winchester finally broke through with ten minutes gone on a looping shot that just made over the goal line. Winchester’s goal served as a wakeup call for the Swirrly Strikers who soon after earned an indirect free kick on the edge of the penalty box to the right of the Winchester goal.
Caroline Sepe served the ball for Alex Francesconi who unleashed a right footed shot that was blocked near the goal. Abby Monahan collected the rebound and whistled a shot past the far post. With a midfield anchored by Alyssa Gardner, Bedford came out quickly in the second half to take over the game. Alex Francesconi won a Winchester goal kick dribbled past two defenders and slotted the ball in the net to tie the score at one. Winchester responded with some furious attacking.
Morgan Andersen and Isabella Stuzynski defended countless Winchester attacks relieving pressure from the Bedford Defense. Bedford’s goalkeeper Isabella Panagiatou made some great saves preserving the tie. Later in the half Alyssa Gardner made a quick throw in from the left wing to Alexa Francesconi who made a quick move past the defender and shot and scored her second goal. Bedford continued to pressure with a number of excellent attacking chances by Isabella Stuzynski, Caroline Towle, and Caroline Sepe.
Later in the second half Morgan Andersen made a great dribbling run down the left wing and crossed the ball to Caroline Sepe who ripped a shot past the Winchester goalkeeper. Cameron Rackey in goal made some key saves and good distribution to close out the game for Bedford.
