Bedford Food Pantry Sees Rise In Need

At a time of year when more people think to reach out to those in need, food pantries also experience an increase in applications for assistance. Bedford Food Pantry founder Peter Grey reports that he has seen a substantial rise in the numbers of people seeking food assistance and emphasizes how grateful he is whenever donations are made. “But,” he said,” don’t forget, we are here all year-round, not just at Thanksgiving.”

The Pantry is located in the yellow Town Center building near Town Hall and is open on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:00 PM for those who have filled out an application and received a client number. The forms and instructions for how to obtain a client number are available on the website, https://www.bedfordfoodpantry.org/content/donate.

A community dinner is also served on Thursdays at 5 pm in the Shawsheen Room at the Town Center, adjacent to the Food Pantry. According to the website, “the dinners are prepared and served by volunteers, often from local churches. All are welcome. There is no charge for the dinners, and no expectation of a donation. There is an opportunity to make a donation for those who want to do so.”

The Bedford Food Pantry is in its 22nd year of operation and was started following the Grey family’s involvement in the Walk For Hunger in 1991. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3)charitable organization and, as such, all gifts are tax-deductible. Donations are accepted in the form of volunteers’ efforts, funds or food. Directions for how to participate are also on the Pantry’s website.
