Due to the recent onset of winter-like temperatures, Millipore’s reconstruction of the Elm Brook crossing at Ashby Road has been suspended until conditions become more favorable. The bridge is located at the bend in the street as it transitions from Ashby to Walsh but it is privately owned by EMD Millipore, the sole underwriter of the project.
Representatives from GZA Geoenvironmental, Inc., the firm performing the construction work, provided status updates on the bridge project to the Conservation Commission on Wednesday. The original scope of the work included road repair, repair to the bridge blocks, replacement of the headwall facade, extension of the culverts, and improved stormwater management capability.
“To date,” said GZA’s Michelle Cimino, “we’ve accomplished the extension of the culverts, the headwall repair, and some temporary road re-grading. We’ll pick back up in the spring with the final grading of the road and the stormwater bio-detention swale that we’re doing.”
The road will remain open while the project is suspended.
It would be so great if they would build a road connection from Ashby to Deangelo drive for a connection to Loomis street to perhaps reduce the traffic going to Great Road.
