Bedford’s Library Trustees Meet

In his report to the Library Trustees, Director Callaghan noted that usage at the Self-Checkout kiosk is increasing every month. Patrons are also increasingly making use of the “remote” [that is, via electronic device] renewal service for books and materials. Although it has always been possible to renew materials by phone, renewal via computer adds even more convenience.

Within the Library building, Callaghan said the reorganization of the Periodical room is now complete. Trustees commented on the spaciousness of the area, now that the shelving is located in the center of the room. With the long windows now fully exposed, the room appears to be larger than before, although the square footage is the same. The rearrangement of the seating area also adds to the welcoming feeling of the room.

The Library budget was passed without question at the recent Town Meeting, Callaghan reported, and in the capital budget, upgrades to the Library phone system and improvements to the HVAC system were approved. These improvements will be carried out through the Town facilities department.

The Library Corporation’s annual meeting took place at the conclusion of the monthly meeting.  Howard Cohen, current chair, will continue in this position for the coming year, and Trustees Lynne O’Connor and Rachel Field will continue as members of the Library Corporation.
