Call for Artists: The Job Lane House 300th Anniversary Art Contest

Submitted by the Friends of the Job Lane House

JLH-300th-logox600In celebration of the 300th anniversary of the historic Job Lane House at 295 North Road, the Friends of the Job Lane House are sponsoring an art contest for all Bedford.

The contest theme is: Show us what is “special” about the Job Lane House, barn, gardens or grounds. All Bedford residents are welcome to participate. Contestant age categories are 6-10, 11-15, 16-18 and adults. Participants will have all summer to prepare for the contest.

To get ideas for their artwork, contestants may visit the Job Lane House during the 2nd or 4th Sundays of each month, May through August, from 2-4 pm. PLEASE NOTE: When inside the house or barn, contestants may take photographs or sketch with pencils. No paint, pastels, or other potentially untidy media are allowed inside either building. Those who wish to create their artwork on the grounds may do so at any time.

Two “Create with us Workshops” will be held on the grounds from 2-4 PM on Saturday, July 20th and Saturday, August 10 for those who would like to make it a group event.

Artwork may be in any medium with a matted art size of 8 ½” x 11” preferred (not to exceed 16” x 20” matted), or a maximum of 12” x 12” x 12” for three-dimensional works. Application forms must be submitted with all artwork.

Artwork may be dropped off at the Job Lane House, 295 North Road, Bedford from 2-4 PM on the following dates: Saturday, July 20; Saturday, August 10; or Sunday, September 8. The deadline is 4 PM on Sunday, September 8, 2013.

Some contest entries will be exhibited on Bedford Day on September 21. Winners in each category will be honored and prizes awarded at the Job Lane House 300th Anniversary Party to be held on Sunday, October 6, from 2-4 PM.

Contest rules and application forms are available at www.joblanehouse.org. For further information, please contact Judy Barber, Contest Chair, at 508-747-0102.
