Built as a private home in the early 1800’s by Joshua Page, it was enlarged to become an inn. It was purchased by a stock company, circa 1880, and became a first class suburban hotel. Debates over whether the inn should be permitted a liquor license roiled the town for many years until Prohibition settled the matter.

The building eventually was acquired by the Bedford Grange and used for their activities until it was finally purchased by the town and demolished to make room for the current fire station.
