MCC logoThanks to Middlesex Community College’s Veterans Resource Center, Veterans Advisory Board and other special veterans services, MCC has been designated a Military Friendly School by Victory Media, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that has been serving the military community since 2001.

The 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

“This award recognizes the work Middlesex does to create a welcoming environment for our veterans,” said Maryanne Mungovan, MCC’s Director of Multicultural and Veterans Affairs. “The number of veterans here at Middlesex continues to grow as word spreads among veterans about our quality programs and overall experience.”

Veterans at MCC have become more engaged on campus through the Veterans Resource Center on both the Bedford and Lowell campuses, said Mungovan. Students are helping their peers though peer mentoring programs, and through a variety of Veterans Club activities, including Q&A sessions about veterans benefits, and “Heroes Among Us,” a speaking program that provides an opportunity for an MCC veteran to tell his or her story about their service.

The list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. For more information, visit www.militaryfriendlyschools.com.
