We didn’t think it was possible, but our 2013 Danny Oates Memorial 5K Road Race and 2.5K Walk surpassed all other years. With the support of the community, runners and Town Officials, the race blew by all others in our history for participants and money raised toward our scholarship fund.
Our 19th year saw 358 runners and walkers, including one bridal party (and bride!), babies in strollers, students, doctors, firefighters, police and teachers each united to help the Danny Oates Memorial Scholarship fund. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors for helping our scholarship grow and continue to help those students who need us. With sponsorships, and the participation of our runners, we will add over $9,500 to the scholarship fund this year.
This race is about the community of Bedford and the spirit of Bedford Day. When you see parents letting their sons and daughters pass them on the way to the finish to win, or young couples holding hands at the finish line, or that favorite teacher getting a round of cheers – you know why the race is so special. Our sponsorship dollars are used directly for the scholarship fund- we have no staff to pay and the funds directly benefit our local students. In the past, we have given out over $15,000 in scholarship annually to students from our local schools. Again, many thanks to everyone who helped make our race Bedford’s race, and a tradition on Bedford Day. We are looking forward to next year, and another exciting, event
