Every October Bedford High School hosts a Homecoming football game. This Friday, beginning at 6:30, it assumes historic proportions.

For the first time, Massachusetts interscholastic football has adopted a championship playoff format. That mean’s Friday’s contest is the last game that counts for the playoffs, and if Bedford defeats Boston Latin the Buccaneers will be in the running for the Division 4 championship.

This year’s team has won four of its five games, its defense has allowed the fewest points per game of any team in the state, and the games — not to mention the BHS band at halftime — are always entertaining and invigorating. (Oh, and be sure no to miss BHS senior Catherine Donato singing the National Anthem.)
